Cryptanthus acaulis (Earth Star), belong to Bromeliad.
(Sorry I wrongly named it Neoregelia, which share the same name 凤梨 in Chinese).
It is a plant suitable for terrarium. Super easy to raise. It shows a beautiful pink color.
It suits dry environment too. I created desert terrarium and some place it in cactus pot and it grows well too.
It has no roots.
Place it anywhere in a close terrarium and that is ok.
It has a fun way to propogate. The new baby plants grows out of its top.
In this video, it shows where I take off the baby plants.
Here are more photos about how I keep them.
Please note: in either dry environment or moist environment, it turns beautiful pink color. When I first time mee it, the local seller told me is is a succulent and I need to keep it very dry. But I do terrariums and by accident I dropped it in a close terrarium and found it grows well, much beautiful that it was. Then I googled its origin and I think it may do well in moist environment too. I am right. See the following photos.
I have kept many for years. and all of them turns beautiful red in terrarium. The one in the coffin, now is as red as the others. I will post a new photos / video about it later.
As it has no root, please just place it anywhere you like. Please do check if any new baby plants come from the top. You need to take those baby plants off and let them grow separately.
