Years change of a moss Terrarium
This terrarium was built years ago. The main plants: pincushion moss and Paphiopedilum micranthum orchid. This is how it looks like when just finished. soon the Paphiopedilum micranthum orchid faded and it needs larger space to propagate new babies and I removed it out. This is how it changed year later. The photos are taken in late Dec, 2025. I put in two Philodendron Hederaceum Lemon Lime leaves and they grow. There are small ferns growing out, including som maiden hair fe

Ficus Ginseng Moss Micro-Landscape: A Bonsai-Style Miniature Terrarium
The plant in the photo is a small bonsai-style Ficus ginseng, and the moss underneath is Leucobryum (pincushion moss). There are no other plants in this setup. This piece was created a few years ago, and it has stayed in good condition for a long time. Its maintenance is also very simple. I’ve posted the tutorial in the past—if you’re interested, please scroll down. Let’s begin with the plants. For pincushion moss, I’ve already introduced it thoroughly in previous posts (ple

Making a Mini Well with Moss and Fittonia— Super Easy Terrarium Project, Perfect for Beginners
Today’s project is very simple. As you can see in the photo, it’s basically a tiny water well. The “well” in the middle is actually a small geometric ceramic dish or bowl — originally meant for hamsters or other small pets to drink from. If you look closely, you can even see some traces of that. But it works perfectly as a miniature well. I happened to have this piece on hand, and the size was just right, so I used it. If you want to recreate this, you can upcycle things arou

Moss and Fern Island Terrarium
This is a portable, movable little moss island. As you can see in the photo, it looks beautiful. Let me first explain how it’s made, and then talk about its advantages. Materials you’ll need: driftwood (azalea roots), red clay, and a flat volcanic rock board. Tools: quick aquascape glue. Plants: Leucobryum moss (white hair moss), any small ferns, and a few begonia leaves. I used small Rabbit's-foot Fern, maidenhair fern, Fittonia, and Acorus—simply because these were what

Succulents in gold envelope Terrarium
When the Weather Cools, Succulents Shine As the days grow cooler, it’s the perfect season for succulents — they burst into color and look their very best. Recently, I built a series of succulent and cactus terrariums using my gold brass glass boxes (originally designed as wedding card boxes). These boxes are made of real brass and glass — over time, the brass naturally oxidizes, giving it a soft vintage patina that pairs beautifully with the muted tones of succulents. For dec

maiden hair fern and fittonia mini house shape terrarium
This is a mini sized vintage house shape terrarium with two triangle vents facing. My house shape one becomes popular and I am asked if it suits for jumping spiders. That normal size house is too large for jumping spiders and here is the small one. In this terrarium, I choose fittonia and maiden hair fern. The fern is a wild one. It is pretty small. This terrariums suit for fern growing. It keeps enough moist for the ferns to grow well and allow vents at the same time. Lon

two moss terrarium projects built with what I have in hands
I put them together because they are created with same terarrium at the same day and use the same method. The plants are slightly different according to what I had in hand at that time. I share them here for any one who want to duplicate it. The first one: the wood: shrimp wood The soil that pressed behind the wood: red clay and Diatomaceous rocks (please scroll below and there is a video for how I mix them). You can change to other small rocks size 1-3mm. The plants: begoni

It was set up in late April and now the plants live well. It proofs that: maiden hair fern is a low maintenance plant as long as you provide it a "close " moist environment for it.
