Selaginella uncinata (Peacock Moss)

Updated: Mar 12

Peacock moss, or peacock fern, or rainbow moss.

This plant was very popular in the past. It regained popularity recently. The first time I know peacock moss is from a gardening book written by a Chinese hundreds of years ago. I often see them at garden shows. Flower shops near me also sell them now.

Peacock moss is a great terrariums plant too. It is a shade plant. It suits for both open and close terrariums. It can also be used as top dressing plants in flower pots. It likes warm and moist environment. In early fall, when temperature cools, the leaves turn a beautiful blue. It is very easy to propagate. Cut a stem and stick it in the soil. It will growto a new one.

Here are photos how it looks like in terrariums, pots, garden.
