A Beginner-Friendly Moss-on-Stone Landscape with Bryum Moss and Seiryu Stone

This moss terrarium project is very simple. The planting is simple, and the process does not involve any complicated steps.
There are only two slightly difficult parts.
First, you need to buy a piece of Seiryu stone, which can be relatively expensive.
Second, the finished arrangement needs to be placed under a glass cover in a bright location.
How I Made It
I used a long, narrow piece of Seiryu stone.
The stone could not stand upright by itself in the position shown in the photos. I wanted it to look like a small cliff, so I attached a support underneath it.
I have pieces of cured expanding foam left over after making other moss terrariums. I cutted one into a suitable piece and glued it underneath the Seiryu stone with quick-drying glue. By this way, this raised one end of the stone and created the cliff-like shape.
There is no need to glue neat or precise. You only need to make sure the stone can stand securely. Because the glued section will be buried later, so it does not matter if the support looks rough. You can use any method that works. This step is not difficult at all.
Next, I placed the stone with its support directly into the planting tray.
I then covered the bottom with small black lava rock granules.
The lava rock serves two purposes. It helps stabilize the stone, and it also makes the finished arrangement look cleaner and more attractive.
Adding the Moss
The final step was to add the moss.
All the moss used in this project is Bryum moss.
The moss looks this large because it was artificially cultivated. If you collect Bryum moss outdoors and keep it in a humid enclosed setup for some time, it can also grow much larger.
One important detail is that I placed the moss directly into the cracks in the stone.
It can grow well this way because the arrangement is in a glass terrarium, which helps retain humidity.
If this moss landscape is placed in open air, this method may not work. The moss on rock will dry out very quickly and easily .
Do You Need to Add Another Plant?
In the photos, I initially added a small cutting of Serissa, a popular bonsai tree.
However, I did not think it looked good so I removed it. But you can add a small plant that you like here.
Of course, you can also leave the arrangement exactly as it is, with only the stone and moss. The simple moss-and-stone landscape is already beautiful on its own.
Planting tutorial will be uploaded later.
